The Autism Adventure is a small social enterprise based in the West Midlands, UK, founded by Paul, the father of a young autistic boy, William.
Paul previously worked as an Earth Sciences lecturer at the University of Birmingham, where he enjoyed teaching students and gravitated towards additional supporting roles, such as welfare and careers tutor. Paul also worked at a college for adults with learning disabilities. Within this role he set up a new area of the curriculum, called Science and Nature, where students were encouraged to explore and conserve the natural world.
In 2022 Paul left his career to provide care for William, following difficulties during William's first year of school. At this time Paul also began developing The Autism Adventure, initially as a space for sharing personal experience through TikTok videos (see our Linktree).
Over the next year, The Autism Adventure's work, reach and ambition expanded, and Paul's focus turned to guiding others in relatable situations. In July 2023 The Autism Adventure became a registered company. This has a dual focus of supporting others' autism journeys and providing educational resources (including specialist tutoring) for autistic individuals.
William has faced significant challenges from autism and epilepsy over his short life, yet he is determined to live with boldness, positivity and joy.
William's journey provides a message of hope to other parents, carers and individuals undertaking their own autism journeys. By sharing William's experience via our hub, we celebrate his uniqueness, and show that, despite his challenges, he is able to live a wonderful life.
